HISTORY OF SKN

Govt of India established Indian Soldier Board on matters of Welfare to Ex-Servicemen/Veer Naris/Widows and their dependents on 07 Sep 1919. Later, the name was changed to Indian Soldiers, Sailors and Airman Board which was further changed to Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) at Centre level and Rajya Sainik Board (RSB) at State level. In Jharkhand, RSB is known as Sainik Kalyan Nideshalaya (SKN).

Sainik Kalyan Nideshalaya was re-organised post bifurcation of Bihar State on 15 Nov 2000 and Sainik Kalyan Nideshalaya, Jharkhand was formed. The Head Quarters of SKN Jharkhand is situated in the premise of Jawan Bhawan-cum-Sainik Bazar, Main Road, Ranchi the capital of Jharkhand. Sainik Kalyan Nideshalaya, Jharkhand formally established on 06 Nov 2004 in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand comprised of 04 Zila Sainik Kalyan Karyalayas (ZSKKs) and 01 ZSKK was established in 2012 at Gumla. One more ZSKK at Medininagar is on its way to formation shortly. Each ZSKK covers two to seven districts depending on Veterans’ and their dependents strength.

At the State level, the resettlement and welfare of Ex-Servicemen/Veer Naris and their dependents is handled by Home Ministry in the State Govt. and the Secretary of the Department oversees the functioning of Sainik Kalyan Nideshalaya. SKN exercises general control and supervision over the ZSKKs which cover more than one revenue District. There are 05 ZSKKs at District level. Hon’ble Chief Minister is the Chairman of the SKN and Deputy Commissioner of District is the Chairperson of the ZSKK. The ZSKK offices are established in the Zilas(Districts) which have population of 7,500 and above of ESM, Veer Naris, Widows and the dependents of serving defence personnel residing therein.
